Yolanda Miller’s Story
Yolanda was a joy to have into our studio. She has been through so much, and yet is so strong. Here is her story!
I had my one and only son at the tender age of 16, back when being a teenage mother was never celebrated. It’s like having a scarlet letter S on your chest. It didn’t matter that I was smart and came from a good family, people made sure I knew I should’ve been ashamed.
Having my son Christopher help mold me into the woman I am today. I went to school and I worked. All the while trying to raise a significantly premature baby. I had no choice.
I finished high school and went on to college. From there I moved to Atlanta where I completed my Master’s degree in counseling. I am a fully Licensed Professional Counselor in two states.
The shame of being a teenage mother. I learned once you have a son, it’s about your child and ensuring that he is well taken care of. I also focused on making my parents proud of me again.
Loving yourself in spite of your flaws, no matter how difficult it feels. Loving yourself when it feels like no one else does.
I think I’m beautiful 🥰
My animated personality!!!
Difficulties are also a part of your journey. As long as you reach your goal, the detours don’t matter.
I am living in spite of every obstacle
Because I’m not the typical looking black woman. I have tattoos, pretty teeth, shaved sides, and a very professional on top of that. I don’t fit the prototype of a Counselor.
I was not as confident as I am today.
Thank you for focusing on self love. We need more of that in the world!!
Every woman deserves to feel confident and beautiful.
