A little over a year ago, my sister in law Lisa got some devastating news. A painful spot on her neck had developed into a lump and so she went to the doctor to have it checked out. The worst was confirmed. She had the c-word. Cancer. Hodgkins Lymphoma, to be exact. It is a blood cancer that can be very aggressive. So she decided to be aggressive right back. She decided to do chemotherapy, followed by radiation. She lost all of her hair, but not before doing an epic haircut and tribute to her hair loss.
Luckily, through a combination of the chemo and the God’s healing power, she has officially been cancer free for over a year. In tribute to her hair loss and return, she decided to be bold and dye her hair purple. Purple is the color for Hodgkin’s lymphoma and I think it suits her well.
She and her husband along with her two kids have been doing great. They moved from Charlotte, North Carolina to Tulsa, Oklahoma so that her husband Nate could pursue a different job, so because of the distance, it’s been over a year since the last time we saw them. Circumstances weren’t the greatest (Nate had a tumor on his pituitary gland that needed to be operated on in Boston, but the surgery fell through at the last minute), but we enjoyed being able to spend time with her.
One of the things that I really wanted to give her was a portrait session of just her. We have recently set up a studio in our house since moving down to the Atlanta area and I wanted to be able to bless her with some gorgeous portraits for her to keep. So as our collective 6 kids (4 of our own and 2 of hers) played in the background, we had some fun and took some photos. Her son Jacob even snuck in to give mom a cute little kiss!
Lisa and her husband Nate are creating a clothing company called Fenimore Supply to help offset the costs of his medical bills. Stay tuned for a few sneak peaks of some of their clothing that we will be shooting in our upcoming branding shoots over the next several weeks.
